Of Kings and Sharks…..

It’s funny that it takes something like a 6 to 2 loss from the Sharks to motivate me to blog about them.  That said, I felt the title above was appropriate given their performance last night.  For those that miss it, I’m trying to draw a parallel between the Sharks and Of Mice and Men – specifically in the way Lenny needed to be put out of his misery, much like this game.

Confession Time: I didn’t attend the game, and haven’t been to any games this season, so I guess I can’t complain too loudly.  I leave that to season ticket holders and those that have traveled far and wide to see the team up close.

All I can say is: WOW!  5 goals given up by Nabby off of 16 shots!  Only 2 goals of offense all night.  It’s not the worst showing I’ve seen from this team (it wasn’t a shutout, after all),  but it does give me pause.  I’ve been looking at their record against LA for this season and it isn’t pretty: 1 and 3 with their one win coming off of a shootout.  With two more meetings, hopefully they can even it out.

True,  the Sharks did come back and win one against the Blues. And they had been on a tear prior to the LA game, but you can’t rest.  Not if you want to make it into the finals and get past the early exit that San Jose has always been known for.  DON’T GIVE UP! KICK A$$ AND TAKE NAMES!

Now I’m not saying do anything rash (like sell off the old folks and get hot, young players to help you push through – perish the thought!).  But I recommend waking up to the notion that none of the teams in the Western Conference (and for that matter, the rest of the league) are going to lie down and hand over a post-season berth.  You got to take it from them and the only way to do that is dominate, kick a$$, and win games.  Wins in OT won’t cut it.  Shootout wins won’t cut it.  Being almost good enough won’t cut it.  You got to get hungry, get mean, defend your net, and get the puck in theirs.

Everything else is a human interest story on how nice you are.
